Professional Supervision

Reflect, Revise, Restore

Our perceptions are coloured by an inner world of which we are largely unaware

Supervision is a confidential and interactive process between two people. It is purposeful and affirming, and by encouraging self-reflection and exploration, it assists in deeper learning which aids in improving practice, job satisfaction and promotes personal well-being and growth.

Supervision is an essential component of professional support. It impacts positively both professional development & the health & well-being of supervisees. A healthy workforce is vital for retention, & excellent workplace practice. Evidence supports professional supervision as positively impacting those being cared for.

I have a background in nursing but my passion lies in supporting those who are in the helping role. My work is based on respect, compassion, reflection, and learning, and I am committed to openness, honesty, and a sharing of knowledge. Within this work, I often refer to my knowledge as a trained Acceptance and Commitment therapist. I have experienced the benefits of living a life in line with the ACT stance both personally and professionally.

Together, we can cultivate a life that is in line with your values and create a life that is rich, full, and meaningful.

See FAQ's for more information regarding ACT

Supervision is not about being given the answers, it is about being helped to find our own solutions to our own problems.

  • ACT is short for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. It gets it name from one of its core messages: accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches your life.

The aim of ACT is to maximise human potential for a rich, full and meaningful life. ACT does this by:

    a) teaching you psychological skills to deal with your painful thoughts and feelings effectively – in such a way that they have much less impact and influence over you (these are known as mindfulness skills).

    b) helping you to clarify what is truly important and meaningful to you – i.e your values – then use that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you to change your life for the better.

  • Supervision is recommended to occur once per month. However it can be more often if required.

  • it may be a requirement of the organisation, in which case they will receive the invoice. However it is possible for an individual to request supervision and pay privately.

Testimonials

Gaylene Delaney was my supervisor at Tauranga hospital for many years. I always found Gaylene very supportive, and showed great empathy. Gaylene was also very knowledgeable as to which direction I should take whether it was to further my career or to solve any work issues I may be experiencing. Gaylene was always punctual and made herself available when I needed her. I would highly recommend Gaylene as a supervisor. Heather

Gaylene was my clinical supervisor from 2011 to 2015. I asked her to be my supervisor as I viewed her as an expert in the field we were both working in, and I was relatively new to the team. During this time, I found her to be professional and confidential. She was reliable in that she always turned up on time despite our heavy workload, and ensured she made time for our sessions.

Gaylene was a good and active listener. She facilitated me to problem solve using my own abilities. The mutual trust and respect during our sessions were palpable. I always felt she had my best interests at the heart of our sessions, and she encouraged me to identify my experiences and emotions and supported me in reflecting on these and relating them to my clinical practice.

I always found her to be supportive, flexible, caring and non-judgmental during supervision, and our sessions helped me to reduce my stress around my very busy and demanding role, and this led to a more positive effect on my relationships with clients.

I have absolutely no doubts about recommending her as a clinical supervisor: try her out - you won’t be disappointed!   Louise

Gaylene was my clinical supervisor for several years. She has that rare combination of professionalism combined with warmth, empathy, and support. Gaylene offered me space for self-reflection while offering gentle guidance to help me reflect on my clinical practice and self-development. Even as a very experienced nurse, I found that the supervision provided by Gaylene enabled me to learn more about myself and how to develop skills to navigate my clinical practice. Lisa
